Common Name: Blue Dicks The vigorous corms of this species increase rapidly by offsets and were a principal source of food for the original Californians. It has purple bracts around tight knots of blue– violet flowers on 2–3 foot stems. It loves heat, sun and good drainage, and blooms early in spring. Common Name: Forktooth Ookow Tight raceme of lavender blue flowers on stems to 2 feet high. Grows in sun or filtered shade. Found in both North Coast and Sierra Ranges. Makes excellent cut flowers. Common Name: Roundtooth Ookow, Wild Hyacinth Clusters of lavender urn–shaped flowers on 24" stems. Found from the central Sierras and the edge of the Valley north to Oregon. Thrives in sun and heat.
